Goodbye Spalding

All of us here at P.S. 122 and Culturebot were saddened today to hear the confirmation of Spalding Gray’s death. Watching him week after week as he developed his show throughout the fall and winter, everyone was amazed and heartened to see him recovering, seemingly before our very eyes. Which makes his loss all the harder to bear.

We found a nice article over at Gothamist on Spalding Gray:

The Washington Post’s theater critic, Peter Marks, writes a lovely essay on Gray’s work and hope that his disappearance was just that. Bruce Weber’s appreciation of Gray in the Times also covers Gray’s career and notes his confessional monologues “opened the stage door for every actor with a penchant for public confession.”
