Oh, for a Muse of Fire

Just a heads-up: everybody’s favorite burlesque-inspired conceptual choreographer/performance artist will be reinterpreting the birth of modernity when Julie Atlas Muz stages her ambitious interpretation of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring.

Julie has hooked up with Chicago’s Butcher Shop Quartet who have transposed Stravinsky’s masterpiece into a four-part arrangement for a standard rock band of two guitars, bass & drums – while still retaining the compositional integrity ofthe original.

Assembling an ensemble of a dozen nightlife veterans including James “Tigger” Ferguson and The World Famous *BOB*, Ms. Muz combines glitter, sweat, wild abstractions of sex, flowers, death metal, floral insects on eight-foot stilts, lust, fear, violence and freedom to interpret Stravinsky’s music for the stage.

This is part of the Whitney Biennial and will be presented at DTW on March 24th & 25th, April 2nd & 3rd. [thanks to terry dean for the heads-up on the wrong dates!]
