New York Theater Review

On Monday, March 20 at the CUNY Graduate Center in Manhattan, Brook Stowe will be moderating an evening of presentations and discussions celebrating the release of the New York Theater Review (Black Wave Press, 2005), an anthology of reviews, essays and new plays that aims to capture a cross-section of the contemporary alternative New York theater scene.

Part of the Graduate Center’s “Publication for the Theatre” Spring 2006 series, “New York Theater Review: A Celebration of Theatre on the Edge” will feature excerpts from new plays by Sheila Callaghan ( Dead City), August Schulenburg (Riding the Bull) and Ken Urban (The Female Terrorist Project), plus a panel discussion of representatives from the NYC alt-theater community, including Michael Gardner of the Brick Theater, Rob Handel of 13P, Zachary Mannheimer of Community Dish, theater publicist Jonathan Slaff, and more.

Additional theater artists scheduled to participate include Lisa Timmel of Playwrights Horizons, Susan Bernfield of New Georges, Keith Powell of Contemporary Stage, and directors Hal Brooks, Daniella Topol and Kelly O’Donnell.

Seating in the GC’s Segal Theatre is very limited, and word is the event is booking briskly.

This should prove to be a most informative and entertaining evening celebrating the New York alternative theater scene and the debut release of the New York Theater Review.
