Kameron Steele, former member of the Suzuki company of Toga, current member of Robert Wilson’s Watermill Center and artistic director of The South Wing, will teach a three-week workshop in Suzuki-based training at Studio 111 in Brooklyn May 22nd –June 7th, 2006

Using as its core some of the fundamental Suzuki exercises, the workshop incorporates a variety of other elements from Yoga, Eugenio Barba-based dance and Meredith Monk-based resonator techniques to create a balanced approach to unleashing the performers’ potential energy. Participants will leave the three-week workshop able to complete a 3-hour non-stop training session that deeply engages the body, voice and imagination. *Previous training in Yoga and Suzuki recommended but not required.

About the instructor

After studying at the Kita School of Noh in Tokyo in 1989, Kameron Steele joined Tadashi Suzuki’s SCOT company in 1990. After leaving the company in 1994, he worked in regional theatre in the US until joining Robert Wilson’s Watermill Center in 1998. During various tours with Mr. Wilson, Mr. Steele was repeatedly asked to lead short workshops in the Suzuki technique until, in 2003, he completed a six-month residency at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico. There he, along with Ivana Catanese and Nathan Guisinger, formed The South Wing company and developed a unique style of presenting the Suzuki method. Lauded as a more balanced and dynamic way to approach this very volatile techinique, The South Wing’s version of the Suzuki method has since been taught in Argentina, Japan, France, Spain, Brussels , Italy, Greece as well as New York and has recently become part of the regular curriculm at several leading theatre institutions in Europe and Argentina.
