Synapse Productions is a Drama Desk Award-nominated Off-Broadway theatre company dedicated to presenting bold, challenging, and provocative work that makes people think and gets people talking about the issues that shape our lives. In doing so, we aim to be a catalyst for social change.

In October 2006, Synapse will launch IGNITE, a three-week festival at the Ohio Theater in SoHo which will feature more than 20 daring and adventurous new small works with big agendas. Showcasing a broad range of New York City’s most talented performers and writers in six 90-minute programs, IGNITE will mix cabaret and vaudeville with monologues, short films, comedy, dance, one acts and manifestos. Including moderated debates and panel discussions, the festival will address hot topics and timely issues and spark conversations to inspire social and political action.

Criteria for submission:
• Seeking: short plays, tirades, monologues, song cycles, one acts, vaudeville, dance, video, etc…
• Running time: 5-45 minutes (Synapse will curate pieces into 90-minute “programs”)
• Piece must address, comment on, criticize, celebrate or ridicule one or more issues of contemporary socio-political import
• Works in development OK

Synapse will provide:
• Venue with complete tech package
• Marketing – postcards, brochures, press rep, etc
• Supervisory production management
• House Management
• Box Office Management

Please submit the following:
• Short project description (no more than 250 words, please)
• List of primary collaborators with short bios (director, performers, designers, company info (if applicable))
• Anticipated tech requirements – include EVERYTHING you think you will need to present your piece
• If a work in development, please describe the portion to be considered for showcase
• CDs, DVDs, and press clippings welcome
