Wanna Run Movement Research?

Movement Research, Inc., now in its 28th year as an internationally
recognized creative incubator for artists and emerging ideas based in New York City, is seeking an Executive Director [or Co-Directors]. The Executive Director will work closely with the board and staff to drive the organization forward based on a recently completed Strategic Plan for FY2007 – 2009; the Plan advances MR’s mission and goals through programs that support research and development, and by continued progress towards financial health and stability. The Board of Directors is seeking an energetic, creative, articulate leader who is conversant with, and a champion of, experimental dance and performance, and who has several years experience working within a smaller-budgeted arts organization. Major areas of oversight and initiation include fundraising and capacity building, fiscal management, program innovation and delivery, board development, and
marketing. A team-based management approach coupled with a strong interest in working with progressive artists within a community-minded framework, while valuing the role of experimentation and investigation in artists’ creative development are a must. Strong organizational, financial and computer-skills (PC), excellent writing and public speaking skills, a sense of humor and enjoyment of challenge are also required.

Mission

Founded in 1978, Movement Research is a non-profit organization that
accomplishes its mission through laboratory experiences. Ongoing classes and workshops are taught by artist educators and innovators, creative residencies are offered for choreographers and movement-based artists, an annual festival brings together leaders in the field, and publications and public events provide artists with platforms for discourse on dance and performance issues.

Our programs serve hundreds of artists and thousands of audience members each year by providing a responsive infrastructure for support, a homebase for individual work-in-development, a creative community hub for critical dialogue, and a launch point for artist-driven initiatives. We support ways of working organizationally that build leadership in dance and culture.
