Suzuki Drop-In Class

Our friends from The South Wing are offering a Suzuki-based Drop-In Class taught by Kameron Steele. It’ll be on Saturday mornings, January 13 & Jan 20 from 12PM-3PM at the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center – La Tea Theater(107 Suffolk St. 2nd floor Between Delancey Street and Rivington Street). It costs $15 and previous training in Suzuki and Yoga is required.

Here’s the deal:

Using the fundamental Suzuki exercises as its core, this class incorporates a variety of elements from Yoga, Eugenio Barba-based dances and Meredith Monk resonator techniques to create a balanced approach to unleashing the performers’ potential energy.

About the instructor:
After studying at the Kita School of Noh in Tokyo in 1989, Kameron Steele joined Tadashi Suzuki’s SCOT company in 1990. After leaving the company in 1994, he worked in regional theatre in the US until joining Robert Wilson’s Watermill Center in 1998. During various tours with Mr. Wilson, Mr. Steele was repeatedly asked to lead short workshops in the Suzuki technique until, in 2003, he completed a six-month residency at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico. There he, along with Ivana Catanese and Nathan Guisinger, formed The South Wing and developed a unique style of presenting the Suzuki method. The South Wing’s version of the Suzuki method has been taught in Argentina, Japan, France, Spain, Brussels , Italy, Greece as well as New York and has recently become part of the regular curriculum at several leading theatre institutions in Europe.
