A month after Valentines Day, Shalimar Productions gives lovelorn New Yorkers the chance to find love onstage and off! The company presents its provocative play about love in the modern world, stirring, March 16 25, 2007 at InterArt Annex (500 W. 52nd Street, between 10th & 11th Ave.). After three of the performances, Shalimar Productions will host speed dating for single members of the cast and audience. The speed dating events will be hosted by local celebrities to be announced shortly. The March 17 and 24 events are for straight singles, and the March 23 event is for gay singles.
stirring enjoyed sold-out runs at the 2004 New York International Fringe Festival and the 2005 Edinburgh Fringe Festival where it was hailed as riveting provocative, hip and beautifully put together (Three Weeks) and highly stylish perceptive about a generation (The Guardian). Drawing inspiration from Ovids classic tale of Pygmalion and the enormous online personals community, stirring takes us inside the lives of seven lonely New York hipsters as they navigate their desperate fantasies and grim realities all from the safety of their laptops. Are these strangers one click away from happiness?
Writers Shoshona Currier (Artistic Director, Shalimar Productions) and Charles Forbes (Minor Gods, The Kennedy Center) combed through thousands of real online personal ads and wove them into a seamless 65-minute, breathtaking story.
