Like An Idiot

Last night we went to see Cristina Moura’s Like An Idiot at Danspace Project, co-presented by 651 Arts.

This Brazilian choreographer/dancer delivers a compelling solo this is very physical, very emotional and often magical. She moves wonderfully and most of the more theatrical parts work too. In the opening sequence she changes costume – and demeanor – in front of the audience and proceeds to do this repeated movement figure across the stage, with vocalizations, that is otherworldly and steamy all at the same time. Several sequences on a small plastic children’s motorcycle are both beautiful and playful. And she does some very clever stuff with water. a few of the more theatrical moments can seem a bit obvious or overly-dramatic, but the overall effect of the piece is quite strong.

It is playing one more night (tonight) so we would encourage you to see it. 8:30PM at Danspace Project, St. Mark’s Church.
