The Happy Ending Music and Reading Series, chosen by New York Magazine and NY Press as the best reading series in NYC, and singled out by the New York Times Magazine for helping to “Keep downtown alive,” features the most interesting storytellers, writers, musicians, raconteurs and personalities, and requires the readers to take one public risk, while the the musicians, who perform two short sets with their original, lyric-driven music, are required to play one cover song and try to get the audience to sing along.

Noy Holland is the author of The Spectacle of the Body and What Begins with Bird. She teaches in the MFA Program for Writers and Poets at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She divides her time between Montana and
Massachusetts with the writer Sam Michel and their two children.

Lorin Stein is an editor at Farrar, Straus and Giroux, and an occasional critic for The London Review of Books and The New York Review of Books. He is not, however, a translator although he did translate Grégoire Bouillier’s The Mystery Guest.

Laurie Anderson is one of today’s premier performance artists. Known primarily for her multimedia presentations she has cast herself in roles as varied as visual artist, composer, poet, photographer, filmmaker, electronics whiz, vocalist, and instrumentalist. Anderson has published six books. Text from Anderson’s solo performances appears in the book Extreme Exposure, edited by Jo Bonney. Her newest is Night Life, a book of dream drawings and descriptions
