here’s to all my friends

Um. So. To some of my readers this may be oblique – to others you will know exactly what I’m talking about.

I didn’t get it. After the most grueling three-month interview process you can imagine, I didn’t get it. I mean, every single one of my friends and acquaintances, every major person in the world of NYC arts, entertainment and culture who knew that I was up for it (and that’s a LOT of people!) thought that I would get it. I’m disappointed, obviously, but I’m moving forward.

As some of you know I’ve undertaken another labor of love  (all work no money) –  I’m in the process of reorganizing, renovating and launching a new performance venue and there will be more info on that to come. Keep checking back for developments.

But in the meantime I want to thank all of my friends, colleagues, acquaintances and members of the community who have offered their love, kindness, compassion, encouragement and support throughout these past few months. It has been amazing and emotionally rewarding to realize that I’m surrounded by so many wonderful and creative people. I look back at the course of my life in NYC thus far and I am astonished at not only the number of people, but the quality of the people that I have had the opportunity to meet, work and play with and I’m astounded. Sometimes in the hubbub of trying to make a living, of competing for the ever-dwindling crumbs of public support and of recognition, you lose sight of what’s around you.

So I want to thank all of you for being here for me and for making my own little slice of NYC such a great place.
