Christian Kesten was born in 1966 and works as composer, performance artist, vocalist and stage director. He studied at the Universität der Künste and lives in Berlin, Germany. His interest lies in the “space in-between“: between music and theatre, music and language, between music and the visual arts.

Since 1987, he has been performing new vocal music and experimental music-theatre throughout Europe and in New York, Rio de Janeiro, Israel, Moscow and Tokyo. He currently works with the ensemble “Maulwerker“ and as a soloist. He has premiered most of Dieter Schnebel’s music theatre works since 1987.

Since 1992, he has been working as a director for music-theatre with Kammerensemble Neue Musik/Maulwerker, Konzerthaus Berlin, Akademie der Künste Berlin, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival; Megaron Moussiki Athens Concert Hall, TESLA, Festival MaerzMusik Berlin. Since 2006, he is co-curator of the experimental music concert series Labor Sonor at KULE Berlin.

Experimental Music is a concert series occurring approximately once a month from January through May 2008. The performances will cover a diverse area ranging from precisely notated events (instrumental and action-based), improvisation, the use of computers/electronics, and radical approaches to time. Object Collection is the performing ensemble-in-residence for the series.

Object Collection was founded in 2004 by director/writer/designer Kara Feely and composer Travis Just. Dedicated to new artistic work in hybrid forms, Object Collection constructs experimental theater and music performances using an unconventional palette of live sound, composed music, and found text. The group is based in New York City and presents work both at home and abroad using a network of local and international artists.
