This just in. Looks like it could be an amazing opportunity for artists working with performance and technology. And I may be reading too much into it but it looks like they’re offering FREE LABOR if you are able to teach the undergrads about integrating tech and performance. This could be your chance to make that huge project you’ve been dreaming of! Here’s some info:

New York City College of Technology, CUNY’s Entertainment Technology Department is accepting proposals from producing organizations for live performance based events that show a compelling and well integrated use of technology for our Spring ’09 residency.  Examples might include, but are not limited to, Multi-media, Theater, Dance, Dance/Theatre or Music.

Organizations will be chosen based on their proven track record to implement concepts, company infrastructure, artistic content of proposed project, educational value of project for our students by offering technical positions and challenges, and can provide a learning environment in best practices and procedure for producing a live event.

(We are looking for companies that can demonstrate artistic excellence, proof of production experience, professionalism, and an understanding of how to work within an educational framework.)

NYCCT will provide the resident company:

•    Limited rehearsal space.

•    An extensive in-House Technical Inventory*

•    Student composed technical crews in rigging, lighting, sound, set construction, scenic art, video, show control, running crew, technical direction, house management, and production management.

•    Assistant positions to design personnel and stage management.

•    Faculty support.

•    4 – 8 performance dates in our 200 – seat performance venue, The Voorhees Theater.

•    Additional publicity support within our infrastructure.

The resident company would:

•    Provide Artistic content for production.

•    Provide all design personnel, talent, stage management, artistic and administrative staff.

•    Be able to meet with the Production Manager at NYCCT as well as possible other faculty during the Fall Semester of 2008 and develop a timetable and goals for production.

•    Must meet deadlines for paperwork on designs, specifications, and schedules as necessary.

•    Any costume considerations – finances, construction staff, etc.,(We can provide a space to build costumes with a sewing machine, but do not have a costume department.)

•    Desire to work with undergraduate students and offer them learning opportunities.

•    Provide publicity.

Please note NYCCT does not offer artist fees, stipends, housing or travel money.  Funding for artistic personnel and talent is solely the responsibility of the resident company.

Design positions may be supplemented by the faculty or senior students, based on faculty interest, or the appropriate skill level of the students to handle the position.

NYCCT and the resident company will create a contract that will mandate best practices principles.  Failure to uphold these principles or other contractual obligations may result in a limitation or termination of project.

Resident Company and NYCCT will split all box office proceeds with the understanding that tickets are priced low, student tickets do not exceed $5 and complimentary tickets are offered to all students associated with production.

•    Application form

•    Production proposal – Please keep it to one page that includes information about your process and how the students of the Entertainment Technology Department will benefit from your production.

•    Production History

•    Resumes and references for all major design/ artistic staff

•    Previous publicity materials

•    DVD of 10-minute sample of work

Application must be submitted or post-marked by May 19th.  Please do not send originals, materials submitted will be kept on file.
