Kiosk at Japan Society

Last night I went to Japan Society to check out KIOSK. It was really cool – kind of like Clerks or Office Space meets Pappa Tarahumara. It is a solo show – essentially – about a woman who works in a small kiosk that sells newspapers and drinks and sundries. But it is somewhat abstract – newspapers fly in from the ceiling, there are two musicians who make sound effects, she fills the water bottles from these absurd – but visually beautiful – hanging water-cooler jugs with funnels and scales. She is tethered to her Kiosk by rock-climbing ropes and carrabiners – careening around the stage while seated on a low, wheeled stool.

It is a fun show, about 60 minutes long and runs only through the weekend.
