ROH2 Firsts – Linbury Studio Theatre, November 09 – Supported by the Helen Hamlyn Trust in memory of

Named by the Telegraph as the “indie” arm of the Royal Opera House, ROH2 invites submissions from creative artists to take part in Firsts 09 in the Linbury Studio Theatre. Now in its seventh year, this season seeks to present high quality work of originality and diversity across the contemporary lyric art forms including music, dance, puppetry, physical and aerial theatre and work that defies categorization. 

Firsts presents nine companies over six nights from 19 to 28 November 2009, each company having two performances on consecutive nights alongside two or three other companies as part of a mixed bill. 

The piece must be 10-30 minutes long and have been created in the last 18 months. The company must be UK based

CALL FOR PAPERS – Postgraduate and Emerging Scholars Symposium:

Mapping performance: intercultural spaces, negotiable boundaries

This symposium seeks to investigate performative trajectories, without neglecting to map the histories and genealogies that inform them. It will explore the ways in which our critical tools can help us to understand a new cosmopolitan geography and the power relations it reflects.

The areas of interest might involve: 

* Global performative frameworks/networks 

* The significance of cultural boundaries and national borders to performance 

* Postcolonial stages 

* Theatres of exchange, surrogation and/or substitution 

* Tracing trajectories and accounting for histories in intercultural theatre practice
