Six Points Fellowship Seeks Emerging Artists In NYC

Okay so here’s a serious opportunity to do something interesting and get paid.  Basically this is part of where I work during the day and I can say that especially if you’ve never given any thought to anything Jewish, here’s a chance to explore something and get significant support to do it. I know the program director and I can tell you that they’re not looking for run-of-the-mill blah blah blah “my grandmother is this,  oy vey oy vey” type hokum.  They’re looking for stuff that really pushes the idea of what Jewish is and could be. And you DON’T HAVE TO BE JEWISH TO APPLY!  The project you propose has to explore “Jewish” ideas – and you have to be interested in Jewish learning – but the applicant doesn’t have to be Jewish.  The program’s definition of what “Jewish” is is really broad, so give it some thought and check it out. It is a very competitive program but can be of enormous value to a young artist, not just financial but as a way of developing professional skills.

The Six Points Fellowship for Emerging Jewish Artists is accepting applications for our next group of artists!  The Six Points Fellowship will support 9 individual artists in New York City (ages 22-38) working in visual arts, music, and performing arts and who want to develop a new project with a Jewish focus, theme, or element.  The Fellowship provides up to a total of $40,000 as well as workshops, Jewish learning, and professional support to develop new projects exploring Jewish ideas and concepts.

The 2-year fellowship will provide:
-Stipend: Up to $20,000 over two years
-Project Grant: Up to $20,000 over two years
-Retreats, monthly workshops, coaching, and mentorship

The first group of artists created an impressive body of work that showed to great acclaim in NYC and beyond, at venues such as Joe’s Pub, Le Poisson Rouge, LaMama, and the Black and White Project Space, and was featured in the New York Times, Village Voice, TimeOut NY, and over 500 blogs.  They are committed to bringing together another diverse and talented group for the next cohort of artists.

To learn more and apply for the Fellowship, visit www.sixpointsfellowship.org.  Application workshops  are being held on Feb. 7 and Feb. 17 at 7pm at the Bronfman Center at 7 E.10th St.,  to learn more about the process.  The Letter of Intent (LOI) is due March 1, 2010 and the fellowship cycle begins in October 2010.

Six Points is a unique collaboration of Avoda Arts, Foundation for Jewish Culture, and JDub Records, with significant support from UJA-Federation of New York.
