Corey Dargel Record Release Event May 21

Corey Dargel’s Someone Will Take Care of Me (May 25th, New Amsterdam) is an art-pop double-CD set of two song cycles based on Dargel’s acclaimed music theater pieces, Thirteen Near-Death Experiences and Removable Parts. The former features the renowned International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) and David T. Little on drums and the latter Kathleen Supove on piano. Both song cycles on Someone examine people’s dysfunctional relationships with their bodies and the feelings of anxiety, vulnerability, and isolation that result — all disguised as quirky-pop love songs lightened by Dargel’s witty and charming lyrics.  Described as “a baroquely unclassifiable” composer of “ingenious nouveau art songs” by The New Yorker, Dargel uses a clever mix of humor and compassion to earnestly celebrate the ways in which abnormal behavior leads to more diverse interactions with the world, new approaches to creativity, and unconventional definitions of sanity. This is Corey’s third album and the follow-up to his well-received Other People’s Love Songs.
