SAVE THE DATE!

The Merce Cunningham Dance Company returns to New York City this spring for the first of four local engagements planned for the final year of its Legacy Tour. At The Joyce Theater from March 22 – 27, the Company will perform three landmark works—Antic Meet (1958), last performed in New York in 1969; the world premiere of the revival of Quartet (1982); and CRWDSPCR (1993), one of the first dances Cunningham choreographed using the computer program DanceForms.  Due to demand, a Saturday matinee has been added on March 26.

In conjunction with the Joyce engagement, the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation is mounting a special exhibition of works created by Rauschenberg in collaboration with the Company, to be presented in their newly converted warehouse space on West 19th Street. In addition to seeing Antic Meet live at The Joyce, audiences will have an opportunity to view the original costumes Rauschenberg created for the piece, including the iconic parachute dresses and Cunningham’s fur coat, presented against the backdrop of archival film of the dance being performed by the original cast.  A sound installation of John Cage’s Essay (1987) will also be included.

Tickets are available starting at $10 online at joyce.org or through JoyceCharge at 212-242-0800. The Joyce Theater is located at 175 Eighth Avenue at 19th Street.
