“Risk x Reward” Performance Series Returns to MAD

The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD)’s performance series Risk x Reward is back for a second season on Oct. 5 with world-premieres from seven artists including Rebecca Patek, Arturo Vidich, and Liz Santoro.

Patek presents You and I of the Storm (Oct. 5, 6 12 at 8pm), described by MAD as “a combination of caricature, fictionalization of the author, and satire within the formal structure of stand-up as a vehicle to create a critical discourse.” The Brooklyn-based choreographer and performance artist has proven to be a gifted comedic performer, and chances are good that her latest work will employ the sort of “deliciously absurd, occasionally cringe-inducingly awkward humor” of 2010’s Jessica’s Story.

Vidich recently partnered with Jeremy in Ephemeral Evidence, Culturebot’s writer/performing artist collaborations, as part of Exit Art’s Collective/Performative group exhibit. He premieres his latest improvisational work, The Daedalus Effect and other dilemmas on Nov. 9, 10 at 8pm, in which he generates physical predicaments in solo performance through interactions with objects designed by writers, engineers, architects, and other artists.

Paris-based Bessie-nominee (Outstanding Emerging Choreographer category for We Do Our Best at Danspace Project) Liz Santoro presents Watch it in the loading dock of the museum on Nov. 15 at 8pm. This intimate performance investigates how we give and receive attention, what compels us to observe others, and what that says about us.
