Post Mortem on Seattle?

There’s a really, really interesting article in the Seattle Weekly on the state of the theatre scene in Seattle, mostly chronicling the demise of that city’s much-beloved Empty Space Theater.

Culturebot lived in Seattle from 1990-1995 and participated in the first, second and third Seattle Fringe Theater Festivals. He also did a bunch of fringe-y plays in black box theaters and all kinds of stuff – oh, those were the days! Good times.

The article is an interesting overview of how the development boom and the demographic changes have affected the quality of the arts -and the life of the artist – in what has always been considered a great theater town.

Much of what author John Longenbaugh has to say is also relevant, on some level, to NYC.
