W.A.G.E. Criticizes Documenta 13 Curator Over Unpaid Artists


“If you were an artist, you didn’t get any money, no, because you were invited to the exhibition.”

Hell of a thing for a curator to say, but not exactly unusual. In this case, the speaker was Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, who curated Documenta 13. There’s been plenty of criticism over the quinquennial festival’s practices over the years–see here for a selection of critiques from e-flux in ’03–and now W.A.G.E. (Working Arts and the Greater Economy) have produced the above “infomercial-dramedy” asking what it would be like if curators were treated like artists. (via ArtFCity)
