Story Corps has been around for a little while but I just got an email reminding me about it. I thought we’d help spread the word ’cause it seems really cool. Also, the organization that is leading the project, Sound Portraits, does great work. A while back I went to the opening of another project they did called Milton Rogovin: The Forgotten Ones which was about this amazing photographer from Buffalo, New York and his work documenting poverty in that city’s West Side.

Anyway, the idea behind the Story Corps oral history project is simple: Everybody has a story to tell; we give him/her a chance to tell it. For 10 bucks you can interview anyone you’d like at their soundproof booth at Grand Central Terminal. At the end of your 40 minute session, you get a broadcast quality CD of the interview. And with permission, another copy gets archived in the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
