Cine-Brunch at (Le) Poisson Rouge is a new take on the summer movie season – a free afternoon screening of art-house cinema classics. The inaugural run includes selections from auteurs such as Vittorio De Sica, Francois Truffaut, Ingmar Bergman, Akira Kurosawa and others. Kicking off the series is The Bicycle Thief 7/5, followed by The 400 Blows on 7/12, Gimme Shelter on 7/19 and Yojimbo on 7/26. Blockbuster season leaves little room for films of substance to elbow into the billboards advertising superheroes, heists, explosions, and magic. But this summer join LPR for free screenings of Neo-Realist tragedies, cinema verite rockumentaries, Japanese period pieces, and other films by the great auteurs of cinema history.
Cine-Brunch offers an alternative to the summer blockbuster: refined entertainment in a cool, comfortable environment where viewers can enjoy brunch or LPR’s regular menu of tapas while taking in classic cinema and sipping a cocktail. And best of all, it’s free!
Brunch specials – all $7 and under – include eggs any style, waffles and pancakes with fresh fruit or oatmeal with brown sugar. Cocktails start at $3, and Mimosas and Bloody Mary’s can be had for $7.
