New Island Festival

On Monday August 17th, “passport” tickets go on sale for the New Island Festival, a ten-day outdoor performance festival on Governor’s Island being presented as part of the NY400 celebration of 400 years of Holland on the Hudson.

New Island Festival comes to New York under the artistic leadership of Joop Mulder (Oerol Festival) and Terts Brinkhoff (de Parade/Mobile Arts). David Binder is the producer, and Henk Scholten (Theater Instituut Nederland) is the executive director. Co-presenters are Dance New Amsterdam, The Figment Festival, The Joyce Theater, New York Theatre Workshop, Performance Space 122, St. Anne’s Warehouse and Under the Radar.

According to the website:

Direct from Holland, the New Island Festival will set up stakes on New York City’s Governors Island from September 10–13 and again from September 17–20. The festival will kick off the fall with provocative theatre, stunning site-specific performance, dazzling visual arts and exhilarating DJ sets, performed by world class Dutch performers. More than 150 artists will perform during the festival.

With artists ranging from Anouk Van Dijk to Ivo Van Hove and toneelgroep it looks like a pretty amazing event.
