P.S.1 Saturday Sessions start tomorrow!
P.S.1’s Saturday Sessions
April 10, 4:00–6:00 p.m.
Performances will take place in the courtyard.
Liz Magic Laser hosts Saturday Sessions and debuts Flight, her new performance based on scenes from popular cinema in which people chase one another up and down stairs. Developed in collaboration with actors Lindsey Andersen, Nic Grelli, Elizabeth Hodur, Michael Wiener, Max Woertendyke, and Lia Woertendyke, Flight activates the grand staircase leading to the P.S.1 entrance with actions culled from movies like Battleship Potemkin, M, Niagra, The Shining, and 28 Days Later. By transporting these climactic chase scenes to P.S.1’s courtyard, Laser continues her examination of fear, public space, and expanded notions of theater.
In conjunction with Flight, Laser has invited Jeanine Oleson and Juliana Snapper to present What? in P.S.1’s third-floor main gallery. Playing with a type of call and response that initially appears to be about a duality, Oleson and Snapper interpret 911 transcripts, lesbian-identified opera, Mary Daly, non-verbal communications, wild women, chimpanzee attacks, and Margaret Mead’s love life. Punctuated by the pops and static of vinyl records, the performance uses language and sound to grapple with ideas that reach beyond rational thought.
Please note: there will be additional performances of Flight from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the outdoor courtyard.
