Kazuo Ohno, founder of Butoh, Dead at 103

Kazuo Ohno Dance Studio has announced that Kazuo Ohno — the great butoh dance founder — passed away at 4:38 pm Japan time on June 1st (3:38 am on June 1st EST.) at Hospital in Yokohama City (Yokohama Sen-in Hoken Hospital). He was 103 years old. The cause was respiratory failure.

At the studio’s request, Japan Society is serving as a spokes-organization in America, and preparing a press release and photo materials to distribute to the U.S. media for obituary.
