Fall playwriting workshops starting at The Flea Theater
For a couple of years now, The Flea Theater has been hosting playwriting workshops with experimental playwrights such as Maria Irene Fornes, Mac Wellman, Jeffrey M. Jones and Erik Ehn.
Called ‘pataphysics, these workshops are designed to give playwrights a mini-grad school experience with a master teacher/writer without the grad school fees and time commitments. Just anounced for the fall are workshops with Craig Lucas and Lee Breuer.
Craig Lucas wrote last year’s Small Tragedy, which ran at Playwrights Horizons; he’s also written the plays/films Prelude to a Kiss and Reckless. Breuer is a founding member of the avant garde theater company Mabou Mines. Some of his groundbreaking work: the book for The Gospel at Colonus; Wendy and Peter; the amazing Mabou Mines Dollhouse, which ran at St. Ann’s warehouse in Brooklyn last year.
Each workshop is 4 sessions long, run over 2 weekends. The cost is $250, but some scholarships are available. Check out the application and workshop dates here.
