Solar Powered Dance Festival™
Solar 1, an environmental arts and education center located in lower Manhattan’s Stuyvesant Cove Park, announces its first annual Solar Powered Dance Festival™. Emerging artists are strongly encouraged to submit materials for consideration by the festival selection panel.

Those interested in participating should send a complete piece of work, cued to a five-minute segment, on DVD or video, preferably the piece they intend to do in August. Please include contact info and a brief bio. All materials should be postmarked NO LATER THAN May 20, 2005. For materials to be returned pleased include a SASE with submission. (materials may also be picked up at Solar 1 during the first week of June.) Please deliver submissions to Solar 1, located at East 23rd Street and the East River in Manhattan (10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday-Friday) by no later than May 23rd. Submissions may also be mailed to :

The festival will be held over the course of 10 days in late August 2005 and will be divided into two 3-day programs (Program A: 8/18-8/20; Program B: 8/25-8/27. Rain dates: 8/21 and 8/28).
Performances will take place on a 20 ft. by 24 ft. outdoor stage, overlooking the East River at 6 p.m. in the evening. The stage design does not include curtain, wings or lighting equipment. Each soloist or group will perform three evenigns and is expected to contribute pieces ranging anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes in length. Performances should be accessible to a general audience and appropriate for all ages groups. Ten hours of free rehearsal time on stage will be allotted to each individual or group, and each choreographer will receive an honorarium.
