On Our List: OBSESSED with Julie & Jackie (special guest Janeane Garofalo)

When friend and super-publicist Stephen alerted our virtual office to this show, space was immediately cleared on the already chock-full Culturebot calendar. Why? Two words: Janeane Garofalo. Though Jackie Clarke and Julie Klausner are no slouches in the humor department, either.

Since the show is called Obsessed it makes perfect sense. I confess a period in the mid-to-late nineties where my fascination and enthusiasm for the comic stylings of Ms. Garofalo bordered on obsession. Not crazy stalker obsession, but more along the lines of “You’re watching her stand-up special again?” and “We’ve seen Reality Bites for like, the umpteenth time, give it a rest” style obsession. Okay, and I occasionally listened to her now-defunct radio show on Air America. Which is perfectly healthy and fine, right? Putting my potential stalker tendencies aside, here are the details:

Join comic geniuses Jackie Clarke (Showgirls: The Best Movie Ever Made, Ever!, Death By Roo-Roo, FREE-FM) and Julie Klausner (Hell House, Free To Be Friends, Cat News) as they host an evening based around the theme of obsession. Guests include writers, comedians, and actual loons (collectors, super-fans, aficionados and devotees of television actresses, novelty food, fan fiction, pop-topping, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and more), all of whom Julie and Jackie are totally obsessed with.

Obsessed is a magical fusion of two brassy hosts and the OCD-stricken fans of esoterica whom they adore: It has a major nerd quotient that combines with its camp quotient the way pumpkin pie spices mix in beautifully with evaporated milk.

Nerd quotient? Check. Camp quotient? Check. Plus, the press materials promise “Surprises! Dance! And Learning! And Laughter!” For a Sunday night, what more could you need?
